Chatbots will continue to be an important part of digital marketing in 2021. This AI-based technology uses instant messaging to communicate with your customers or site guests in real-time, day or night.

In place of direct communication with a live human agent, a chatbot is a software application that conducts an online chat conversation through text or text-to-speech. A chatbot is a type of software that uses messaging platforms to automate conversations and communicate with people. Chatbot systems are normally designed to convincingly mimic the way a person might act as a conversational partner, but those in development are still unable to converse adequately or pass the industry standard Turing test. Michael Mauldin (creator of the first Verbot) coined the word “ChatterBot” to describe these conversational programmes in 1994.

Alan Turing’s popular essay “Computing Machinery and Intelligence,” which introduced what is now known as the Turing test as a measure of intelligence, was published in 1950. This criterion focuses on a computer program’s ability to impersonate a human in a real-time written conversation with a human judge to the point that the judge is unable to accurately differentiate between the programme and a real human based solely on the conversational material. The notoriety of Turing’s proposed test piqued interest in Joseph Weizenbaum’s ELIZA software, which claimed to be able to trick users into thinking they were conversing with a real person and was published in 1966.

Weizenbaum, on the other hand, did not say that ELIZA was truly wise, and his paper’s introduction described it as a debunking exercise:
Machines are made to act in wondrous ways in artificial intelligence, often enough to dazzle even the most seasoned observer. But once a program’s inner workings are exposed, the magic fades away, and it’s revealed as a series of procedures… “I should have written that,” the observer thinks to himself. With that thinking, he moves the software in question from the “intelligent” shelf to the “curious” shelf…

The identification of hint terms or phrases in the input and the output of the corresponding pre-prepared or pre-programmed responses that can move the conversation forward in an obviously meaningful way, such as reacting to any input containing the word ‘MOTHER’ with ‘TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY.’ As a consequence, even though the processing involved was just superficial, an illusion of comprehension is produced. Since human judges are so eager to offer the benefit of the doubt when conversational responses can be perceived as “intelligent,” ELIZA demonstrated that such an illusion is shockingly easy to create.
